Shahada – Becoming Muslim

Taking shahadah

The shahadah is the testimony of faith in Islam. The affirmation that:

There is no god except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon Him) is the Messenger of Allah.

The shahadah is the beginning of your journey as a Muslim. Your journey towards Allah.

Being a Muslim is built upon the five pillars:

  1. Shahadah – faith or iman in Arabic
  2. Salat – The five daily prayers
  3. Zakat – Donating 2.5% of your excess wealth
  4. Sawm – Fasting the month of Ramadan
  5. Hajj – The Pilgrimage to Makkah, once in a lifetime if you are able
